A dual-channel 500-series feed-forward compressor and limiter for stereo mastering. The PYE 588S senses the input and applies control at the output, enabling extremely fast attack with virtually no overshoot. It uses a sum/difference path for accurate width control, with adjustable attack, a width/balance control, make-up gain, and illuminated meters. Balanced XLR and 6.3 mm outputs; current-mode input transformers minimize distortion. 20 Hz–20 kHz, +30 dBu input, +28 dBu output.
